The Farm Education Collaborative is offering a new summer program for ages 11-14 at the Hampshire College Farm Center in South Amherst. The Farm-to-Market program will be led by a former middle school science teacher and Hampshire College farm staff. We still have some spaces available and were hoping to have the program information below listed in the upcoming school newsletter. More information can be found on our website at: www.farmandgardencamp.org
Farm-to-Market Camp
TIME: Mon.–Fri., 9:00 AM–3:00 PM
DATES: August 1-5 and 8-12 (2 week session)
FEE: $625 per camper
AGES: 11–14 • LIMIT: 12 campers
Be part of the action at the Hampshire College Farm Center! Spend mornings getting your hands dirty in the fields, greenhouse, and livestock barns helping college farm staff with daily jobs and special farm projects. Morning chores may include harvesting herbs, watering greenhouse seedlings, moving animals to new pasture, and painting or repairing farm structures. We will work hard in the mornings with afternoons spent preparing and sharing lunch together, selling garden produce at our own farm stand, playing group games, going on hikes, and having some time at the end of the day for journaling, reflection, or enjoying the slip and slide. We will learn about the importance of local foods, how to grow vegetable crops from seed to harvest, and how to care for and handle the farm animals that call Hampshire College home.
